Wild — MOVIE REVIEW

Reese Witherspoon as Cheryl Strayed in Wild

Wild teaches us very many life lessons. If you are an attractive female, anybody will help you on a long hike. If you’re an average looking male, not so much. Wild is Jean-Marc Vallée’s follow up to his Awards-hit Dallas Buyer’s Club and I gotta say, having those two films on your resumé is a good problem to have. But a movie like this rests entirely on the strength of the main actress. Luckily, Reese Witherspoon decided to bring her A-game for this one. Continue reading

Edge of Tomorrow — MOVIE REVIEW

Emily Blunt and Tom Cruise in Edge of Tomorrow

I don’t know what sold me more on this movie. Tom Cruise or Emily Blunt. Neither of them had disappointed me when it comes to them starring in sci-fi movies as of yet. Tom Cruise was 2 for 2 in his sci-fi films. And Emily Blunt was 1 1/2 out of 2 in hers. I personally liked Oblivion and absolutely loved Minority Report. And when it came to Emily Blunt, I was a big fan of Looper and I kind of liked The Adjustment Bureau. But I saw Doug Liman’s name attached to direct this movie and I started to worry. The guy who did Mr. and Mrs. Smith is doing a science fiction movie? I was not excited. But the story had me hooked. It came off as a combination of Elysium and Source Code. Whether that was a good thing or a bad thing had remained to be seen. But how did this movie fare? Continue reading

Enemy — MOVIE REVIEW

Jake Gyllenhaal and…erm….Jake Gyllenhaal in Enemy

Enemy is definitely one of those movies you have to watch twice to probably catch everything you need to. This movie seems so basic from the outside, but it is actually littered with deeper meanings and motifs. This movie marks the second film where Jake Gyllenhaal teamed up with director DenisVilleneuve; the first one being Prisoners. Both movies are very good in their own right, but they are definitely two completely different kinds of movies. Continue reading

Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues — MOVIE REVIEW

Meagan Good and Will Ferrell in Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues

What did I just watch? Seriously, I don’t get it. I most certainly don’t get how 75% of the critics can like this movie. Going into this, just know that I am going to hate all over this. If you absolutely loved this movie and don’t want to read someone bashing it beyond belief, you have officially been warned. Continue reading

In a World… — MOVIE REVIEW

Lake Bell directed, wrote, and stars in In a World…

In a world where all we payed attention to were box-office blockbusters and horror films, and independent films such as In a World… get pushed off to the side and viewed by virtually nobody, Lake Bell would be doing what exactly? Who is Lake Bell? Do any of you actually know of her? Yes, she is that actress who plays the funny best friend who steals all of the scenes she appears in; in all of those crappy romantic comedies like What Happens in Vegas. But we really don’t know her. In that world where indie flicks get pushed to the side, that is what Lake Bell would be relegated to. That is who she would be to all of us. But I am happy that I don’t live in horrible sounding world.

Bad Words — MOVIE REVIEW

Jason Bateman in Bad Words

I didn’t really know what to expect going into Bad Words. I had seen the red-band trailer for it back when I went to see The Wolf of Wall Street in theaters. It had looked pretty funny, as even the trailer made me laugh hysterically. It was even more surprising, given the crude nature of the film, hearing that Jason Bateman not only stars in this movie; but he also directed it as well. Jason Bateman has never struck me as the crude kind of character actor so it was surprising to see him tackle this role. But did he succeed? Continue reading

Hannibal “Sakizuki” — TV EPISODE REVIEW

“I believe you.”

Okay, so holy shit. That was kind of disgusting. That opening scene, as amazing as it was, was actually pretty gross. Watching that dude tear up his skin as he stretches his way lose from other bodies was just rough. Glad I wasn’t eating at that time. Also, his fall was brutally unsympathetic. Just…bam, bye-bye. Hannibal is at it’s highest quality right now. It doesn’t look like it is going to let up any time soon. Continue reading

Believe Series Premiere — TV EPISODE REVIEW

NBC’s new TV series “Believe”, brought to you by J.J. Abrams (Lost) and Alfonso Cuarón (Gravity)

Believe is a new show that premiered on NBC. It is an odd mix of different things. It has a mystery element, a procedural element, and also a good vs bad element. Now, this show is about a girl with what seems to be some special powers and the people who have to protect her. At the start of the show, we see a little girl named Bo (played by Johnny Sequoyah) get into a car accident with her foster parents. And we see that people are after her. They want her for…reasons. We don’t know what they are but we assume their intentions aren’t exactly noble. Especially when these people killed her foster parents to get to her. They were unsuccessful the first time though. Continue reading

True Detective Season One Finale — TV EPISODE REVIEW

The best new show on television, “True Detective”

Give that man all of the Emmy Awards that you have! Holy cow, such good acting in this episode. Its nothing new with this show. Every episode, these two guys kill it. This episode had all of the set up from last week so it didn’t take much for it to get going this week. And once again, the episode was damn good. I was worried about this episode last week though. For one, I didn’t think the “lawnmower man” was a very strong villain. And I was worried because I honestly had absolutely no idea where these two characters were going to take us. What a journey this show was. Continue reading
