Dawn of the Planet of the Apes — MOVIE REVIEW

Andy Serkis as Caesar in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes

So back in 2011, I went into Rise of the Planet of the Apes expecting a silly movie about apes. I went in thinking that it had the possibility of being but at the end of the day, it would still be a movie about apes. I walked out of that one pleasantly surprised. Not only because I usually dislike James Franco in most of his movies and he wasn’t so bad that time around, but because it was just a good movie. Plus, it had one badass moment that still gives me goosebumps to this day. But now it is 3 years later, and it is time for the sequel. I kind of went in to this movie with the same mindset as before. After all, it’s still a movie about a bunch of apes. But I was so wrong to go in with that mindset. This movie deserves much more respect because it really is that good. Continue reading

Game of Thrones Season Four — TV SEASON REVIEW

“YOU RAPED HER! YOU MURDERED HER! YOU KILLED HER CHILDREN!” –Oberyn “The Red Viper” Martell

It is a fun experience watching Game of Thrones. I don’t know how far they will deviate from the books or how they will execute certain events or scenes. Honestly, I wish I hadn’t read the books so that I could go into each season with a blank mind with no idea what is in store for me. I would be shocked when someone dies. I would get goosebumps when a character steps up. And as a reader of the books, I was still worried going into Season Four. Why? Because they had just ended Season Three on one of the biggest shocking events on TV…ever. They had gotten rid of the character viewers most likely rooted for the most. Without that aspect, would the show still be able to hold the same vibe? Would it still feel like the same show? The short answer: Yes. Continue reading

BLAST FROM THE PAST: Star Wars Original Trilogy — MOVIE REVIEW

Possibly the most iconic moment in cinematic history.

So I decided to finally getting around to watching the films everyone has been talking about since I was a kid. Star Wars. These movies have been cultural phenomenons for decades. Countless references get made to these films in movies and TV shows we watch today. I had attempted to watch these movies a long time ago, but I only got through a portion of the first one. I remembered nothing from it later on. Years later, I attempted to watch Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace and was turned off to Star Wars in general. I was not a fan of the first installment of the new trilogy, so I never had to the slightest desire to go back and watch the originals. Well, that changed and I finally watched them all. In one day. I am not going to go in-depth with the story of each one of these. They have been out for over 30 years now. If you don’t know the story, then I’m sorry but that’s your problem. I will just give a brief overlook on my thoughts of each one. And yeah, if you haven’t seen these movies yet, there will be loads of spoilers here.

So…let’s get started. Continue reading

Neighbors — MOVIE REVIEW

Zac Efron, Seth Rogen, and Rose Byrne in Neighbors

This is one damn funny movie. Neighbors shouldn’t work overall but it does. It does a concept that feels a little familiar and borrows from other comedies in certain aspects. But where these other comedies fall short, Neighbors strives. It has been a long time since I have laughed this much at any single movie in the movie theater. The last one is probably The Wolf of Wall Street, which was the funniest movie of last year. So far, this is the funniest movie I’ve seen this year. Continue reading
